This is a Japanese cultural immersion experience. If you want to stay in a traditional Japanese inn, take your shoes off at the door, walk on tatami mats, sleep on futons, sit on the floor, eat Japanese food and take a Japanese ofuro before you go to bed, then this is a great place to stay. Being on the grounds of the beautiful Zenko-ji Buddist Temple heightens the experience. Be sure to get into the mountains while you're there.
The bath was not open one night.
Warm welcoming hosts for an authentic Japanese ryokan experience. Lovely Japanese breakfast. Fantastic location close to Zenkoji temple in Nagano.
A great experience of traditional Japanese accommodation, outstanding location and friendly staff who went out of their way to meet our needs.
No fridge or kettle.
Excellent choice with any criteria. Very good location in the nicest area just in the threshold to the temple, which is the main attraction of the city. Ambient was exactly want you want to experiment in ryokan, feeling the years the place has seen, but still clean and comfortable, and the old owner couple was like tailor-made to the place.. so warm and welcoming. Even we didn't have language to understand each other, they showed and explained with hands what ever needed to explain. And although there are only public bathrooms in the corridor, as we arrived late, they made bathroom privately for us to have warm and relaxing bath before sleep. And to underline their hospitality, cause we didn't book breakfast, they gave us a juicy apple in the morning to not letting us leave without something to eat. This was first time for us in ryokan and it was exactly the experience we wanted to get.
Great typically Japanese hotel, family run, fine indoor 'onsen'.
