The owner and staff were incredibly welcoming, making my stay feel like a home away from home. The food was an absolute delight and the location ideal for visiting the temple.

Cozy and well-appointed Japanese-style rooms create a serene atmosphere.
From 6:00 AM onward, loud conversations echoed outside my door, making it impossible to sleep. Plus, the lack of soundproofing meant that staff preparing for breakfast were practically in my room—this is not the relaxing vacation I signed up for!

This place was an excellent fit for resting at all in Nagano with very good value for money. The onsen spa was a lovely way to unwind after a day of exploring. Try to book a room away from the dining area for a quieter sleep.

During my stay, I loved being just steps away from Zenkoji Temple, which made it so convenient to visit. The meals were a highlight. every breakfast was different and absolutely delicious, setting me up perfectly for a day of exploring. The room offered a lovely, traditional atmosphere and the little touches, like daily green tea and local sweets, made it feel so welcoming.

i had a fantastic stay at jizokan matsuya ryokan. it’s located right near the zenkoji temple, making it super easy to explore. the room was elegantly designed with traditional japanese futon, and the onsen spa was such a treat after a long day. the staff were incredibly helpful too.
might want to improve the soundproofing a bit.

We had an amazing stay with friends. The location is perfect for exploring, especially the nearby temple and local streets. The owners were super friendly and made us feel at home. We loved the traditional meals and the onsen was a fantastic way to unwind after a day out.
However, the check-in process was a bit confusing and we had to navigate some stairs to get to our room. It would be helpful if they had better signage or a map on hand.

The traditional Japanese room was lovely, boasting a private bathroom that offered much-needed privacy. Enjoyed exquisite meals, notably the hot waffles at breakfast, which were a delightful surprise. However, morning commotion from staff preparing breakfast made it hard to have a peaceful start, and a few nearby restaurants closed earlier than expected, limiting dining options. Despite the charming atmosphere, soundproofing could use improvement for a more tranquil experience.

I stayed in a Standard Twin Room, which was compact but super comfy. The traditional tatami setup really added to the vibe. I loved that there was plenty of natural light and windows overlooking lovely trees. The small bathroom worked perfectly for privacy. However, I did hear some early morning noises from staff, which made waking up a bit disruptive. Otherwise, I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and little touches like the daily green tea.
